• Kalamazoo Countywide Common Calendars

Ever wonder how the calendar gets scheduled for the school year?

The More Common Calendar committee meets yearly, and it includes administrative and instructional staff representing all nine local school districts in Kalamazoo RESA, as well as Kalamazoo RESA staff. As required by Michigan's Revised School Code, this committee is in charge of making recommendations to the local district superintendents on the start date of school and when winter and spring breaks will occur. The common calendar helps support collaboration with and coordination of our county-wide programs (such as Education for the Arts, Career Connect Campus, Special Education, Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center) and also identifies options for testing dates, records days, and balanced semesters/trimesters. Once approved by the local superintendents, the Kalamazoo RESA board of education makes the final approval of the common calendar. From there, both KRESA our local districts build their own district calendars based on the common calendar.
