• Beginning School Bus Driver Safety Education Program
    Curriculum Overview


    Training is broken up into two phases:


    CLASSROOM

    Nine instructional units are covered during the classroom phase:

    1. Driver Role and Responsibility
    2. Vehicle Familiarization
    3. Vehicle Inspection
    4. Vehicle Operation
    5. Collision and Emergency Procedures
    6. Loading and Unloading Passengers
    7. Passenger Management
    8. Special Education
    9. Field Trips Traffic Control Devices

     

    RANGE  (currently demonstrated in the classroom)

    The range portion is a "hands-on" training experience for bus drivers. Drivers will perform the following performance tasks:

    1. Using a fire extinguisher

    2. Lighting a fuse

    3. Evacuating a school bus

     


    The Michigan Beginning School Bus Driver Curriculum is currently being updated.
